Pochampally sarees:
Also known as ‘Ikkat’, Pochampally sarees are produced in a small village located in the Nalgonda district of Andhra Pradesh.
Ikkat sarees are hand woven using silk or cotton fabrics. They are adorned with traditional designs.
Dharmavaram Sarees:
Located in the Anantpur district of Andhra Pradhesh, Dharmavaram is a very famous place for heavy bridal sarees, also known as Dharmavaram sarees.
These sarees are made in silk fabric and consist of a contrasting pallu and border of zari brocade. Dharmavaram sarees showcase exquisite patterns and combinations of different colors such as yellow, maroon, pink, blue, green, etc.
Uppada Sarees:
Uppada sarees are crafted by the artisans of the Uppada town (a beach town). These sarees are crafted in cotton fabric and adorned with beautiful patterns set in gold and silver zari.
Uppada sarees are woven in ‘Jamdani’ style.
Gadwal Sarees:
Gadwal sarees are made in the town of Gadwal located in the Mahbubnagar district of Andhra Pradesh.
These sarees are very famous for their zari borders as well as zari pallus. The body of the saree is made with cotton fabric.
Woven in Kupadam style, Gadwal sarees are made in vibrant colours such as parrot-green, maroon, red, yellow, etc.
Mangalgiri Sarees:
Mangalgiri sarees are produced in Mangalgiri town located in the Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh. These sarees consist of flattering borders that are adorned with gold or copper threads.
Woven on a pit-loom, Mangalgiri sarees are made with cotton. They consist of a plain or striped body along with a beautiful pallu adorned with zari work.
Narayanpet sarees:
Narayanpet sarees are crafted by artisans of Narayanpet town located in the Mahbubnagar district of Andhra Pradesh.
This Andhra Pradesh traditional dress mostly consists of a plain saree body along with a contrasting pallu.
Both border and pallu are adorned with zari work.
Narayanpet sarees are lightweight and easy to carry; therefore, they can be worn on casual events as well during the day-to-day tasks performed by women.
Venkatagiri Sarees:
Venkatagiri is a small town located in the Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh. It is popular for traditional sarees that are made with cotton and silk fabrics.
The best part of Venkatagiri sarees is that they’re really lightweight, therefore, comfortable to wear.
Woven in the ‘Jamdani’ style, Venkatagiri sarees are made in bright colors and are adorned with beautiful dots and motifs such as parrots and leaves.
Andhra Pradesh Traditional Dress For Bridegroom
The groom wears a kurta and a full-length dhoti. Both these garments are made in fancy fabrics such as silk.
The groom also wears an additional piece of cloth that is draped over one of his shoulders. All these clothing pieces that we just mentioned are made in either white or cream color.
