    Tripura is legendary for its incredible handicrafts and handmade costumes. The origin of the inhabitants found associated with the Chinese-Tibetan people who migrated through the mountains. The Tripuris are the main group among nineteen tribes and many subtribes of this state.

    Tripura has colorful cultures and authentic traditions that the people conserve through the guts. One can get an image of this state’s customs through the costumes and pieces of jewelry used by the people till now.

    Among all the tribes of Tripura, Reang and Tripuri jewelries carry the essence of this hilly state. Tripura Jewelry forms a crucial part of the tribal life of the Northeastern state.

    There are many sorts of tribal jewelry that are worn by the regional people in Tripura. These are very fashionable among the local people of the state as well as among the tourists. The jewelry of the tribal people in Tripura is made of different kinds of metals like silver, bronze, copper etc.

    Tripura Jewelry forms a crucial part of the tribal life of the Northeastern state. There are many sorts of tribal jewelry worn by the regional people in Tripura.

    1. Coin Jewellery

    The jewelries of Tripura are unique and crafted by local people. These pieces of jewelry are always a favorite for all tourists. The pieces of jewelry made from mainly bronze, silver and copper. the individuality of these jewelries is in the coin shaped designs.

    Coins of metals are made to make a necklace or earrings or anklets or even headbands. The coins are decorated with ancient cultural descriptions in kind such as the picture of Lord Shiva killing the cruel King Tripura. The ladies prefer to wear big and heavy bangles known as “Kara” for traditional occasions.

    2. Bamboo and Cane Jewellery

    Aside from the coin jewelries, there are handmade bamboo and cane pieces of jewelry. The village craftsmen use their art to rework bamboo into various items such as bamboo bangles, bamboo earrings, cane trendy necklaces and lots of other articles.

    The bamboo earrings are Very lightweight and all the bamboo jewelries come in various attractive colors also. Bamboo and cane Ornaments are very intricate and exquisite in nature. Bamboo and cane ornaments aren’t available in any other part of the country as well as abroad.

    3. Kara

    Kara or Kada may be a thick metal ring or bracelet usually worn on the hands or wrists of men and women in India. it’s a religious bracelet that Sikhs & some Hindus wear. Mostly made from Iron, the Kada has different design styles and is typically used to honor a religious figure.

    Tripuri men usually don’t prefer wearing jewelries. In specific occasions, some may wear metal rings together with headbands and belts made of coins. This attire looks great with the normal costume. Occasionally men will wear one “Kara” or bangle in one hand. Coin necklaces also are available for men in Chakma tribes.

    Common Jewellery of Tripura

    Tripura features a large population of tribal’s from Hindu, Muslim, Christian and Buddhist backgrounds. Each tribe has its own rituals and functions specific to its clan. The costumes for every tribe are different with different sets of colors and motifs to distinguish them from each other. 

    Together with the costumes people also sport silver jewelry during festive occasions, ritualistic dances, and otherwise daily wearing ornaments of decoration. The normal jewelry is made of silver. 

    The ladies of Tripura wear necklaces of coins, bangles made from silver and nose rings and earrings made of either bronze or silver. Flowers are also sometimes used for adornment.
