Menopause is a process that every woman goes through as they age. This is the natural sign of her reproductive years coming to an end. Menopause starts to change a woman’s hormones, which inevitably starts to change a woman’s body. The most noticeable changes happen within the skin. These changes tend to decrease estrogen levels, leading to a lack of skin elasticity and dryness. When it comes to managing menopausal skin, it requires a strong skincare routine. One that fits your specific needs so your skin can get back to feeling good again.

    Hydration Is Key:

A common issue that women face with menopause is having dry skin. Estrogen is key when it comes to hydrated skin. But menopause decreases this hormone and causes your skin to slowly dry out. It’s important to keep your skin hydrated to cancel out this new dryness. Go for a cleanser that’s hydrating and gentle so it doesn’t strip any natural oils from your skin. Once you’re done with that, follow up with a rich moisturizer. Make sure to choose one that contains ingredients like hyaluronic acid and glycerin, these will help retain that necessary moisture.

    Sun Protection:

Another issue with menopausal skin is that it tends to become more sensitive. Especially when it comes to possible sun damage. As your estrogen decreases, your skin starts to become thinner. This process makes your skin more prone to wrinkles and age spots caused by UV rays. It’s in your best interest to always wear sunscreen with at least 30 SPF when you go out. Even if it looks cloudy, UV rays can still come out through the clouds. If you’re outside for long periods of time, make sure to reapply every couple of hours. This helps keep your skin protected from exposure and reduces the risk of skin cancer.

    Incorporate Antioxidants:

A great way to maintain your skin’s health is by incorporating antioxidants. They can help with free radicals, which can cause skin damage and speed up the aging process on your skin. Adding skincare products with antioxidants like vitamins C and E to your routine can make all the difference. These help to repair damaged skin cells and get your skin feeling as good as new. It’s important to research which products work for your skin to avoid irritation.

    Avoid Hot Showers:

Hot showers are a great way to relax and unwind from a long day. But they can strip natural oils off from your skin, which can make your dryness worse. Go for lukewarm showers and limit the amount of time you’re in there. This helps to prevent excess dryness and irritation when you get out. Make sure to not rub your skin after your shower, gently pat it, and follow up with a good moisturizer.

    Regular Exfoliation:

An issue with menopausal skin is that it starts to collect dead skin cells. This causes your complexion to look dull and lose that youthful glow. Regular exfoliation can help with getting rid of those dead skin cells and keep your skin looking healthy. You don’t want to go too intense with these as they can damage your skin more. Choose a mild exfoliating scrub or chemical exfoliators that work well with your skin. Follow the instructions and keep with exfoliating once or twice a week to keep your skin in a good place.

    Healthy Diet and Hydration:

When it comes to having healthy skin, you need to create a healthy diet to keep everything balanced. Adding fruits, vegetables, and whole grains to your meals not only boosts your energy but keeps your skin refreshed. Avoiding unnecessary junk food helps with acne breakouts and irritation and gives your skin the glow you’re looking for. Along with a healthy diet, make sure that you’re drinking plenty of water. Your skin will thank you for the extra hydration.

    Consult a Dermatologist:

If your skin continues to change and you’re not seeing any different results, reach out to a dermatologist. They will help you figure out the root of your problems and suggest products that can help. They understand how the skin works, especially during menopause, and want to make sure that you’re comfortable. Make sure to tell them all the issues that you’ve been having so they can best help you. Follow their specific instructions to get the results that work.

The best way to deal with menopausal skin is to create a skincare routine that helps you. Investing in the right products will get you on track to getting the skin that you’re looking for. Make sure to go for ones that work for your specific skin type, so you don’t irritate it more. Along with having a strong skincare routine, make sure that you’re taking care of your body. A healthy guy leads to even healthier skin, along with regularly drinking water. With these changes, your skin will slowly get back to feeling normal again.
